Follow The Drinking Gourd
“Follow The Drinking Gourd” was a song that the slaves sang to keep up their soul and to send secret messages. The drinking gourd was a constellation that looked like a drinking gourd.If they followed the drinking gourd, they would be led to freedom. Also the song “Wade In The Water” had a secret message too.While they followed the drinking gourd they had to take a river straight down a path; which was why the song said wade in the water. These secret codes in these songs led the slaves to freedom.
